AQUARIUS NEW MOON 2022
The new moon occurs on 31 January at 12 degrees 19 minutes Aquarius at 10:45 PM Mountain Time. That is 12:45 AM EST on Feb 1.
The New Moon is pretty close to a square to Uranus at 10 degrees Taurus. But by the time of the New Moon, both the Sun and the Moon will have already squared Uranus and moved off. Energetically, then, we experience the Aquarius New Moon with a sweat on the brow of a trial we have already met and have started to move beyond. We still may feel the effects of that labor, but we can wipe the forehead, have some water and say “good job so far.”
Venus went direct on 29 January and is close to a semi-Sextile to the New Moon/Sun.
Mercury continues retrograde and will resume forward motion on 4 Feb at 24 Capricorn.
Aquarius wants to shake things up. In a square to Taurus, whose ruler, Venus, is still finding its feet after resuming forward motion on 29 January, it can shake up our self care routines. It can call into question what really works for us and what does not? Where have we been caught in repetitive behaviors or cycles that might be comfortable but have, upon reflection, have lost their meaning.
Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the higher octave of Mercury.
Our ideas, in Aquarius, can be more expansive, more unusual and they may come on suddenly.
Aquarius wants to be free from the restraints of society, of ordinary responsibility, of outmoded habits and ideas.
Since new Moon energy leans toward the letting go of what is complete, no longer useful, or that which has been found to impede revolutionary motion, we might even be inclined to do something rash.
Luckily, we still have Venus and Mercury in Capricorn reminding us what we love about the tried and true rules and routines, tempering Aquarian energy that may want to jettison it all.
Mercury just made a retrograde pass over Pluto which has made scales drop from the eyes. We have a chance to see what has really been going on. We can weigh whether it’s worth sticking around now that we have a clearer picture, or whether to vote with our feet and check out, take our purchases and head home.
Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius will be rooting for heading for the door and a “wind in the face” flush of freedom.
If we are aware of what has been brewing for us, we can see the surges of rebellion and flashes of insight in the context of our own evolution. We can consider the new impulses and information pouring into us with something of a level head and involved heart.
If we’ve been lolling around in a TV and Tik Tok-infused post holiday fugue state, we might fall off the couch, get that metaphorical knock on the head, and find ourselves face to face with some big changes wanting our full attention.
Aquarius and Uranus can deliver wake up calls from our deepest memories buried many levels down. They’ll only rise up if they have relevance right now, to be ignored at our peril- for the next wave of memory/emotion/call to attention/action will come with more force and urgency.
Uranus will do what it takes to wakes us from the torpor of denial, misunderstanding, and/or diversion.
Once Mercury resumes forward motion on 4 February, we will, for the rest of the month, have all planets moving in forward motion. We may feel a bit unfettered and may have an easier time getting things going.
This new Moon also brings in the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Tiger, signifying strength and courage.
It is a good time to clean house, release the remnants of 2021, and move clear-eyed and with a clean floors into 2022. Clearing and cleaning are always good ways to welcome a New Moon.
As always with the electrical energy of Aquarius, grounding exercises are helpful to reorient/maintain balance with the new energies coming in. Doing jumping jacks, taking a walk outdoors, meditating on the squirrels or birds out the window can all help with grounding.
The lovely Thich Nhat Hanh moved from the earthly realm recently. I can recommend, The Miracle of Mindfulness – a book that can help with grounding and being present for the human adventure.

CANCER FULL MOON 2022
The first full moon of 2022 is at 12:48 EST on 17 January at 27 degrees Cancer.
The powerful Cardinal Cancer (Moon) Capricorn (Sun) axis likes to begin things.
Begin or begin again.
We have Mercury newly retrograde at 9 degrees Aquarius. We are going to visit with our subconscious, with our memories, with our old journals and vision boards to see what needs to be seen as new.
The person who thought those thoughts and dreamed those dreams and glued those vision boards is the same one looking at them today.
I often address the me in my past and need to address that future me, too.
I appreciate the me who has provided for me and cared for me. I talk to that me and thank that me.
This is fitting, now, as Venus – the valuer, the lover, the friend, the one who relates, the one that puts together previously unrelated pieces…
is retrograde at 13 Capricorn.
As Capricorn rules time, and Venus is retrograde, it is a perfect moment, at this full Moon, to time travel.
We can imagine the us who is now visiting a friend when we were both 15 or 26.
We can cry or laugh again. We can sit in a different chair in the restaurant – we can view the scene from a now perspective. We can do it as a daydream if the word meditation is too ponderous.
We can do the same adventure into the future and imagine where we want to lounge, or dance or paint or have dinner.
Who is there? How does it smell? What are we wearing? Is it hot? Is there shade? Do You feel relaxed? Excited?
Time travel at this full Moon is encouraged and can be encouraging.
There is a watery tint with this axis. Capricorn has a serpent’s tail as it is well acquainted with the depths of human, spiritual and timely experience.
We can find our way to other times through evocative triggers: songs, poems, tv shows, memories and wishes.
Cancer is ruled by the Moon. The Crab is as happy on the ocean floor as it is scampering around the beach under the moonlight.
We intuitively feel our place on the earth plane. At this full Moon we can feel into the time that will best inform us of who we are, what we want and how we would like to proceed.
Crabs don’t move in a straight line. The go back and forth. They go side to side. They scoot behind a rock to get a safer, hidden perspective.
And speaking of hidden/revelatory views, the full Moon is opposing Pluto conjunct the Sun in Capricorn.
We can reach into the power and personal authority that is our birth right, the power that is as close as our own heart. We can tune in, through the heart, the mind , the intuition, and the power of the blood that courses through the veins, pulled by the moon. We can tune in to our own vibration, our own blueprint for who and what a d how we want to be, do, interact and have in this life.
We hold the pearl in the palm of our hand that glows just for us. It has insight just for us, tailor-made just for us as a touchstone, signpost, and guide.
The full Moon illuminates, it magnetizes. It helps us to recognize, to intuit, to elaborate, the way to the within and to the without are made more clear.
May the full Cancer Moon bring the energy to the true Home inside, where the hearth fire is always warm, -always welcoming, always comforting.

CAPRICORN NEW MOON 2022
Happy New Moon. Happy New Year.
The first new Moon of the year is at 12 Capricorn on 2 January 2022 1:33 PM EST.
Capricorn is a great lead in to every new year as it rules time.
New Year energy signals a reset. It can signal a look at things we feel it’s time to do – or at least to consider.
Saturn-ruled Capricorn also rules the structure of things and events – our day, our menu, the layout of our home. The New Year energy lends itself to the consideration of the structure of our hours and days. It then may call us to focus on how we might build/rebuild certain areas of our life. At this New Moon Mercury and Saturn, are in Aquarius making way for some real eureka moments.
Jupiter, the optimistic expander, is at powerful 0 degrees of Pisces- asking us to attend to the dreams of our minds, our hearts, and our Spirits.
If you know what house Capricorn inhabits in your chart, that can add more insight to what areas come up for consideration every year around this time.
Venus is retrograde in Capricorn until January 29th. Venus is all about how we relate, care, value and love. Capricorn, among other things, is all about structure, time and rules. Retrograde cycles invites us to revisit, review, reflect, reconsider, reevaluate, etc, etc.
The New Year is a a time for intention setting. It is a time for releasing of the old and outmoded and allowing breathing space to invite the new.
It seems that the first weeks of the 2022 can be a time to look at our relationships of all kinds. We don’t have to go crazy jettisoning everything and going with the whole “New Year, New Me” thing. How about “New Year, New Toothbrush…” It’s achievable, and it is good self care. It can be rewarding to find places where we can do micro adjustments by keeping changes gentle and doable.
Back to our New Moon Capricorn, Venus retrograde. The first relationship is the relationship with the self. We can focus on how we value ourselves. We can think about what has been working in the last couple of years since our daily lives and routines have probably shifted quite a bit since 2020.
Which of the new habits whether they be by circumstance or by choice — have been beneficial and even enjoyable?
I know many people have found that having a built-in excuse to say no to social invitations has been a godsend.
What else makes us feel good, healthy, relaxed, motivated, inspired?
How about a New Year wish list? It’s a bit more fun and open-ended than a resolution.
What do you want to do, to try, to attract in 2022?
Pondering and writing these things down while dreaming end envisioning the coming days weeks and months can all be fun at this time.
Pulling some cards or doing a meditation to invite seen and unseen energetic helpers for the year can also be affirming at this time. Keep an eye out for which animals and plants catch your eye and look up their divine meaning on the Internet.
See if their companionship is welcome. A retrograde Venus cycle is a great time to develop the relationship with the higher self and with guardians, angels, guides and teachers.
Do what you like if you aren’t sure about what you love. It isn’t always recommended to fret about “Purpose” or “Meaning.”
How about going toward things, activities, and people that make us feel good.
How about we join with the thoughts and experiences in life that give us a lift, that bring interesting new energy, that smell, and feel and taste a bit different, a little bit inviting, exciting, inspiring and, hey, even hopeful?!?
Surely the last two years have affected our relationships of all kinds. We have seen what is valued, valuable. We have experienced shifts and changes.
It is okay to let some routines, habits, things, and relationships go with live and gratitude.
During a Venus retrograde cycle we feel the strength of our inner authority emboldening us to realign with who we are now, what we want now and how we want to live now. Life is about evolution, after all. We are in especially dynamic times just now.
Welcome, 2022.
Capricorn rules Time and we can align ourselves with our own inner clock to know when to ponder, when to rest, when to initiate, when to complete, when to start anew. 💗
