HI Everybody,
I feel drawn to write to you today. The New Moon that was exactly conjunct the Sun in Libra very early this morning Utah time is calling me in. The New Moon happens every month and the New Moon will always be in the same sign that the Sun is in -- which for now is in Libra. We hear a lot about Full Moons – they are times of fruition and completion. They are also times when things are big -- the moon is big and our emotions and issues can be highlighted for us. With the Full Moon staring us in the face we have something to rail against -- or dance with! Our emotional partner, the Moon is there for all of us to see -- lighting up the night and early morning sky with a telling description of what we've been working on. Also it highlights the polarity, as the Full Moon is going to be in the sign opposite the sign that the Sun is currently in -- The full Moon during Libra is in it's opposite, Aries, for example -- so we are dancing with two sides of a story. New Moons are traditionally a time of endings, getting ready to move toward new beginnings, time of completion and emptiness. Instead of being drawn outside to howl at the Huge Orange Orb -- we are being drawn inward -- Sun and Moon together in the darkness. It can feel like our dancing partner, our emotional touchstone, the Moon, normally available in one of her guises – skinny, medium, full -- has not come to call and we are left on our own. One can feel weepy, lost, lonely and momentarily a bit hopeless, like the light has gone out. A person may feel bereft and unsure how to feel at all. We have been letting go as the Moon has been spending about two weeks waning. We have been Consciously or unconsciously shedding. The call here, at the time of the New Moon is to come inside and be with the emptiness. At the New Moon we can see how we’ve let go and what seed has been left behind to start gestating as the moon once again begins to wax. A great use of this special time, though, is to stay in that moment of between-ness – to keep ourselves company in the dark. This isn’t a time for making to-do lists or collages or conductin visioning exercises. The Moon, our cosmic Mother, is not lighting up the night for us and we can truly feel our own energy in a way that isn’t possible at any other time of the month. It takes a little courage not to turn on a torch under the covers and instead just simply sit with the stillness, the darkness, the Self. That time spent is totally worth it – honoring the darkness, the quiet, the unknown. When the light of the Moon begins, little by slowly, to come on again, -- a day or so into the New Moon, the time comes to set some intentions, make some goals, paint a picture of what you might like to see materializing in your life, in your Beingness, in the coming weeks til the Moon makes her full show once again. But for a few minutes, the Stillness is enough.
