LIBRA NEW MOON 2019
The New Moon at 5 degrees 20 minutes Libra occurs on September 28th at 1:26 pm EST. The new moon comes just a few days after the Equinox as we go into days of ever increasing darkness or light, depending on your Hemisphere. It is the halfway point of the Astrological year. Venus, ruler of Libra, currently moving through Libra, as is Mercury. As Libra is an air sign, purview of the mind, and by association, communication. There is an implicit connection with Libra to Mercury – the gatherer and purveyor of communications. The business of Libra is to learn about the self by embarking on a variety of relationships with others. Libra is just the first sign of the second half of the zodiac. From Libra through Pisces we are getting to know who we are by how we relate to individuals, groups and the environment. Libra is the first sign above the horizon. It rules partnerships of all kinds – business, friendly, romantic. Scorpio rules marriage. Libra is more akin to dating — getting to know others and who we are when we relate to others. When we observe — a very air sign thing— our reactions to others – we learn about ourselves. Does your boss bring out your best work? Does your mother always know how to inspire a very scratchy kind of irritation? Did that date last night make you laugh in a way you’d thought you’d forgotten how to do? A new Moon in Libra can open us up to how we are relating, when we are relating, what feels like it’s working and expanding. Libra is connected to aesthetics, the mental experience of the beauty of ruler Venus. One can start to think one is relating by keeping up through social media and curated feeds. Libras aesthetic nature may prefer to watch than actually engage. The true lesson of Libra is in actually meeting with others — all kinds of others. It may, however, feel like a freshly hatched chick staggering about on spindly legs. Libra is a Cardinal sign. It begins things. It emerges from the egg and says here I am! Who are you? It could meet a fox who wants to eat it. It could meet a worm that the chick wants to eat. The new relationship experiences can send us back into our shell – but each new experience causes us to grow. The shell has been cracked open and can’t offer us the protection it did when we were gestating. Each relationship affects us in some way. The mind of Libra considers what we look like, who we are now and want to become, in part, due to the experience of the Other. Chiron in Aries is in opposition to the Libra new Moon. Aries is the newly emerged instinctual primal Cardinal energy. It is definitely experiencing itself through its own physical lens. Aries is ruled by Mars. It will heal itself by instinctually striking out on its own, again and again to express its very “beingness” in the world. Chiron in Aries has groundbreaking energy. The Aries/Libra polarity has us dancing back and forth across the wire from Aries pure instinct, following its nose to find itself, to Libra imploring the other to hold up a series of mirrors to say, who am I now? And now? And now? The Cardinal signature is a desire to change. The repeated new beginnings inspire more and more change — or as we say nowadays — growth — assuming we are ever expanding through our experiences. Cardinal signs are zipping back and forth across the line of their polarity to find balance – a place of comfort, a place of interdependence. The balance between Aries and Libra is between blind instinct and considered and considerate relationship. Between now and the full Moon in Aries on October 13th, we can ask ourselves, where am I the warrior on the field, hugely focused on kill or be killed? Where am I the warrior, marching home from battle, dreaming of my perfect partner waiting for me, heart in hand, immaculate home, beautifully swept hearth? Where am I the returned hero, storming into the house, covered in gore and the grime of my journey, with very little idea of how to relate to the clean and quiet and relationships of peacetime? How does it feel to have time, at last, to look another in the eye with love, curiosity, compassion? Maybe the partner the warrior returns to has succumbed to the wounds of their own battles. Maybe the partner has joined up with someone else while the warrior has been off following their own quest. Maybe the kids the warrior finds around the table cannot possibly be their own. Who is that returning hero in the reflection of these scenarios? Who am I now? Each experience of the self alone, and the experience of the self as reflected through the other, invites reflection and change. The invitations are dynamic, as can be our willingness to accept the invitation. If the invitation from other humans feels like too much at the Libra new Moon, one can unite with our higher selves in meditation. We can unite with earthly and universal energies by standing, barefoot, in the garden - observing the interaction of the bird and the branch on which it alights. All things are relating, in varying degrees, all the time – the kettle and the water, the vacuum and the dust, the cold and the sun. The changes may seem infinitesimal, they may seem cataclysmic. We can’t fit back into the fractured eggshell from which we emerged. Ever onward, inward, and outward again we go. I am a big fan of rest, reflection, and a pinch of resolve to begin again. Lots of love. Lydia [email protected] www.soulastro.com
